Why Grill Donuts This Summer
This is National Donut Day, or Friday as it is called, because any day can be Donut Day if you try hard enough. To be honest, I love every opportunity to talk about donuts and would like to use this holiday to draw attention to my favorite summer dessert: grilled donuts.
It may seem like I’ve gone too far, but listen to me. Like cooking vegetables on the grill , in the preparation of donuts on the grill with sugar there is a lot of great things, namely caramelization. You end up with a dough that is practically brulee, with a deep toasted sugar aroma that goes far beyond “sweet”. Simply toss a donut (preferably glazed) onto a (well oiled) grill, let the fire do its thing for 30 seconds or so, flip to get the other side, and serve. Grilled donuts are delicious on their own, but I wouldn’t blame you for creating something like a shortbread cake with whipped cream and fresh berries. Fried donuts can also be a great breakfast option, but keep in mind that this is a powerful warrior’s morning meal.
