Why Are You Always Sick After the Finale
Somehow it makes sense when we are sick in the middle of winter. But when spring has come and all the lessons are done, catching a cold seems unfair and cruel. Why do students get sick at this time of year? Anna Rothschild of Gross Science has the answers.
Basically, you are stressed and not getting enough sleep. This may not be surprising, but there is science to back it up: Researchers gave people nasal drops containing cold viruses, and people who didn’t sleep much were more likely to get sick. Another study found that medical students had fewer natural killer cells , important for preventing viral infections, around the time of the finale.
Traveling right after the finale doesn’t help either: travel can not only exacerbate your stress, but also introduce you to new pathogens .
