Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Smoke Khan Shot First
May the Fourth be with you, my nerds, and welcome back to 3-Ingredient Happy Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. We’ll have a little drink early this week to celebrate this sacred day.
There is no shortage of fun Star Wars-themed libations , but most include a lot of food coloring. It wouldn’t be such a terrible thing if we weren’t working with a limited amount of ingredients, and I don’t want to waste one on dye.
This drink is a tribute to the particularly controversial revision of the 1977 film, and has a smoky mezcal in it because the guns smoke, folks. One of my favorite bartenders at my favorite bar mixed it for me, but you don’t need to be a professional mixologist to make this drink. Aside from the smoky mescal, it has the slightly bitter, slightly sweet amaro – a drink as complex as our beloved space cowboy. You will need:
- 1 ounce smoky mescal (We used Vida . Oddly enough, their slogan is “Drink this. Don’t shoot”).
- 1 oz Amaro Nonino
- Orange peel strip
Take a small glass and put one large cube in there. Add the booze, stir everything well (about 15 seconds) and squeeze a strip of zest over the drink to squeeze out the butter before tossing it in. Take a sip and try not to shoot the Rodian bounty hunters.
