Google Home Will Now Read Aloud Cooking Instructions
When it comes to home voice assistants, there is no denying that the bulk of their use is in the kitchen for setting timers and playing audio. Google is taking the next logical step by creating Google Home, which can now read recipes aloud.
This is how it works:
- Select a recipe using the Google Assistant on Android or the Google Search (now simply called Google) app (on iOS or Android ).
- Click the Submit to Google Home button when you find the recipe you want to make.
- When you’re ready to start cooking, say, “Ok Google, start cooking.”
- When you’re ready for the next step, say, “Ok Google, step two,” or if you need to repeat something, say, “Ok Google, repeat.”
The idea here is pretty good, but it’s hard to tell how well it will perform in real time. It’s also a little frustrating that you can only submit recipes using Google’s own apps, which limits your choices and there doesn’t seem to be any means to save and recall any recipes. In any case, this is still a step in an interesting direction. Like all Google features, this will be rolled out over the next week or so, so if it doesn’t work for you right now, please try again later.
