Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Energizing Ferrari and Soda
Happy Friday, everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring super simple yet delicious libations. While spring may be a time for fruit and floral cocktails, I am a bit bitter and therefore would like to introduce you to my good friend Ferrari & Soda.
This drink may sound a bit controversial, but I think it’s worth getting. If you’re a fan of super dark chocolate, gin, bitter greens, and herbs, this might be your new favorite. Composed of equal parts Campari and Fernet Branca , it is bitter, invigorating and somewhat life-affirming.
I already drink a lot of Campari, but I think that Fernet itself is a little more. Putting the two together somehow smooths them both out. The mint aggressive character of Fernet is softened by the citrus notes of Campari, and the drink is invigorating and soothing at the same time. This is one of those drinks that are great as an aperitif or tasting and is easy to make.
Here’s what you need:
- 1 1/2 oz Fernet Branca
- 1 1/2 oz Campari
- Sparkling water upstairs
Fill a glass (lowball or highball will do) with ice and pour Fernet and Campari. Stir everything a little and cover with sparkling water. If you want a really different flavor and add an ingredient, squeeze a strip of zest over the top of the drink to add a little flavor.
