What’s Cooking? What Is Your “Can’t Even” Food?
Hello, and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , a weekly open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes, and opinions on anything edible. This week I want to talk about the food you cook when you don’t feel like chopping, cooking, or doing anything.
I’ll go first. I actually eat two “can’t even” meals. When I just can’t cope with the world around me, but still “keep it in me” to cook a small amount of food, I take a rib with a bone, look at it, fry it and eat it all whole. This is usually a bottle of wine. Sometimes there is a blue cheese salad from the salad bar at the grocery store. But when I’m really not forced to do more than boil water, I’ll make Kraft Cheese Pasta. Sometimes I put frozen peas in there . Sometimes I put tuna in there. Sometimes I will do both . I once crushed some salt and vinegar on top and ate it in the bathtub . It was good. But enough about me, let’s talk about you and the fact that you can’t even eat. Here are a few questions to get you started:
- What kind of food do you cook for yourself when things go wrong and you need a little edible comfort?
- Do you have your usual hangover lunch?
- What do you eat if you don’t have to cook a damn thing? (Is this a plate of expensive cheese?)
- Do you have a favorite frozen food that really tastes good?
- What are your favorite non-homemade mac and cheese?
- What’s your favorite brand and flavor of instant ramen?
- Is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich the best convenience food? What jelly do you use? Have you ever tried peanut butter and marinade?
If your food “can’t even” is takeaway, I’d love to hear about it too. In fact, I might have to order takeout tonight. My kitchen is still badly destroyed after Easter.
