Gwyneth’s Fast Food Guide Has Some Surprisingly Good Choices

Stopping by car can kill a healthy diet. But there are less bad fast food menu options, and in the last newsletter, Gwyneth offers several. Surprisingly, their choices are healthy, and most of them will not lead you to starvation. Here’s a breakdown.

Fasting (although not really to death) raises concerns with this tip: Always watch out for “healthy” foods that are low in calories . Whole lettuce may reduce calories, but it won’t fill your belly. And it won’t feed you; it’s just water that you can chew . This is why it is so important that GOOP names menu items that allow for realistic cooking. However, some of their peaks are better than others. Check out the top three:

Starbucks : GOOP recommends egg white and red pepper sous vide , along with hearty vegetables and brown rice salad . It is a 600-calorie meal with 23 grams of protein, 29 grams of fat, and 63 grams of carbohydrates. Decent lunch, although expensive for fast food, around $ 11.

Chipotle : The only nutritional difference between a salad (their offering) and a bowl of burrito is that when you order a salad, you are offered a cup of salad dressing. So it all depends on what you decide to add. They suggest avoiding sour cream and cheese and adding rice only “if you’re hungry.” So, if we ditch the rice and take the black beans and guacamole as they suggest, and say yes to the dressing, it’s a 690-calorie meal containing just 11.5 grams of protein, but a whopping 48 grams of fat (roughly half from guac and half from dressing) and 59 grams of carbohydrates. However, this is easy to set up. Review your choices with the Chipotle Nutrition Calculator to calculate your calories.

Wendy’s : You’ll get hungry if you accept GOOP’s recommendation for half-size Mediterranean chicken salad. They say it’s “really very generous,” but that’s not the word I would use to describe what is only 240 calories. Instead, go for a full diet of 450 calories, 20 grams of protein, 9 grams of fat, and 22 grams of carbohydrates. Or forget the lettuce health halo and have a grilled chicken sandwich that contains 35 grams of protein for just 360 calories. (It also has 8 grams of fat and 38 grams of carbs.) The sandwich costs $ 4.89, but you can also order it with salad as a combination for a full 620 calorie meal (with even a salad!) For the same the price of that of a Mediterranean salad.

If you’re stuck with fast food for lunch, then the options above are decent options. To find out more about what to eat when you choose your roadside menu, check out our tips for choosing the least unhealthy snack foods.
