IOS 10.3 Introduces New File System, Adds in-App Reviews & Find My AirPods

Apple released iOS 10.3 today, which isn’t a particularly exciting update, but it does have a few minor improvements, including a new file system worth mentioning.

The new file system is called Apple’s file system. It supports native encryption, although it would be more interesting to see it in macOS. It’s also optimized for solid state storage, so hopefully it will be a little more comfortable to use overall.

Beyond that, Apple is also introducing a new Find My AirPods option, in-app browsing tips that allow you to browse the app without going to the App Store, and a small tweak on the Settings page that makes it easier to access Apple ID information. … Mail also gets a new thread viewer to make scrolling through a ton of messages a little less cumbersome, and the Podcast app gets a widget. Finally, developers get two nice little new features: the ability to respond to reviews in the App Store and the ability to update the app icon without submitting an update to the App Store.

You can install the update now by going to Settings> General> Software Update. As always, make sure you have a current backup before updating. We haven’t heard of any problems moving to a new filesystem, but it’s always a good idea to back up everything before any update.
