These Cities Will Be Hardest Hit by Trump’s Tutelage
If a Republican replacement for the Affordable Care Act is ultimately passed, insurance prices will rise for some people and drop for others. (Spoiler alert: If you’re poor or old, it sucks to be you.) Vallethab checked the numbers on which cities would be hit hardest and figured out who’s going to get the smaller side:
- Yuma, Arizona , has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country . There are many jobs in agriculture and people find it harder to survive during the off-season. The average household will receive $ 7,815 less in assistance buying insurance.
- Anchorage, Alaska , has one of the most expensive health insurance coverage in the country . Many insurers have left the Alaska market entirely because it is so difficult to make money in this business: the cost of living is high and providers are few and far between.
- Syracuse, New York , where manufacturing jobs have been cut for decades.
- Reading, Pennsylvania , a Hispanic-majority city in the center of a predominantly white rural district. It has a high poverty rate and was named America ‘s poorest city in 2011.
- Chattanooga, Tennessee , a city with a generally thriving economy but also has a serious income inequality problem . Its sunny days hide a large number of people living in poverty. On average, all household subsidies will be $ 5,786 less.
These are cities that everyone would probably like to be “great again”, but the wealthiest cities in the US are the ones to benefit from Trumpcare. San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC have the highest incomes in the country, and all three average residents will have more than less insurance subsidy.
