How Much Do Managers Expect You to Negotiate When They Ask for a Raise?
It’s always a little embarrassing for most of us to ask for a raise. How much are you asking? This review sheds some light.
Career blog Paysa surveyed 2,431 workers, some of whom were managers and executives, to find out what they thought about the pay rise. They asked one question: how much is too much? Surprisingly, 29% of managers said that no amount is too high if it reflects your value as an employee. The largest percentage (38.8%) said that more than 5% of your current salary is too much.
This data is interesting to know, but most negotiating experts will probably agree: it shouldn’t stop you from striving for more. Sometimes employers can afford to pay you a lot more than you think , and you never know unless you ask. You can check the data in the image below and then go to the original post to learn more about their survey.
