Have Supermarket Butchers Split the Pack of Meat When Cooking for One
Whether you are in a butcher shop or a grocery store, butchers will do their best to make your meal easier. For example, if you don’t want all the meats in a bag, kindly ask if they’ll split for you.
As Deb Carter, Publix’s assistant meat manager, explains in The Kitchn , butchers can save the day when there are two or three packs of chicken breasts and you only need one. If you ask politely, most stores will break the packaging and only repackage what you need. If the price of meat is quoted by weight, they’ll be fine with you. So, if you’re not ready to cook all that meat all at once and don’t want to freeze it for later, see if there is a way so you don’t have to bring it home at all.
