Rest of the Day: BritBox Is a UK TV-Only Streaming Service
There is now a streaming service specifically for Anglophiles. The BBC and ITV have teamed up to launch BritBox, a streaming service dedicated to British television. Are you laughing?
- For $ 6.99 a month for the BritBox, you can watch a library of classic films like Blackadder and The Office, as well as a variety of TV shows that have never been available in the US before, like The Moonstone . While I’m fascinated by the idea of Netflix just for the British, many older shows are already available on other services, and some of the big shows you expect to see, like Top Gear and The Great British Bakeoff, are nowhere to be found. But if you’re a die-hard fan of British detective stories and historical dramas, you might want to dip into a biscuit. [BritBox]
- In other news, Twitch has launched what is effectively its own version of Twitter. Yesterday, the Amazon-owned company announced Pulse, a Twitch front page news feed that lets you share status updates, clips, highlights, and more. In other words, Twitter is for gamers, albeit in a simpler form that lacks Twitter @ -responses. Pulse has just started rolling out and will be available to all users in the next few weeks. [Twitch]
- Flickr has a useful new search feature that allows you to find images that are visually similar to what you are looking for. For example, suppose I am looking for images of a cat, but I only want to see a kitten of a certain color. After searching for “cat,” I could select an image of a black cat and see visually similar images. Voila, all black cats. [Flickr Blog]
- WordPress has a new plugin that allows you to link it to Google Docs. This way you can write and collaborate on Docs and then send your text to WordPress without copying and pasting it. (Copying and pasting isn’t a big deal, but the plugin should retain most of your formatting.) [The Verge]
