Packing travel bags and luggage well is a skill. If you want to excel at this, you must practice like everything else.

When Beka Defelice of Thrillist asked a group of soldiers, airmen, sailors and other US military personnel for packing advice, the most common suggestion was to practice packing. Again and again. When traveling, pack your bag, then unpack it completely, then repack it several times. You will learn how to pack your bag better so you can do it faster – which is useful when it’s time to get home – and makes you remember where each item is in your bag. If you need to get to something quickly, you don’t have to waste time digging. While you exercise, lay everything out in a staging area, such as your bed or kitchen table, and then get down to business. Pack, unpack, repack.
