Microsoft Releases Visual Studio 2017 With Faster Installation and More Compact Footprint
Microsoft today released the latest version of its popular IDE, Visual Studio 2017 for Windows, as well as a preview of the Mac software that is still in development. The biggest improvement is the installation screen, which finally allows you to choose which components to install.
The big push in this update is speed. In this case, it includes a new real-time dependency checker to find bugs faster, improved collaboration features (including significantly improved GitHub integration), and several new publishing features. All of this comes with a brand new installer that lets you choose your own workloads, features, and language packs. This gives Visual Studio less memory and faster startup times, and makes it easier to use. This should come in handy when installing Visual Studio on a laptop that doesn’t have a lot of storage space.
As with the latest version of Visual Studio, the free version is available along with professional tools for students, open source developers, and individual developers. The Mac version is also getting a new preview with many bug fixes and performance improvements as it gets closer to the correct release. Like it or not, Visual Studio is ubiquitous in the software industry, and this newest version makes it a little more affordable. You can find more details on all the latest features on the Microsoft landing page.
