The Joy of Sweatpants

I recently purchased sweatpants. They are soft. They are warm. They are comfortable. I haven’t worn or even thought to wear sweatpants since childhood, opting for jeans from dawn to dusk instead, but since then I’ve rediscovered a world of comfort known only to those who wear soft pants. I suggest you do the same.

The pants were a fluke. I didn’t wake up one morning and decided I needed a couple; rather, they were included in a set of clothing designed to deliver a variety of essentials in a single package (from Basic Outfitters – which yes, I saw on Shark Tank and ordered because I’m a helpless moron when it comes to day to day stuff.) … I didn’t think I needed sweatpants, but they were part of the set, so I ordered them anyway because I needed more socks and underwear.

What a ridiculous thought, looking back, “I didn’t think I needed sweatpants.” Reader, we all need sweatpants.

As you can imagine someone working in the informal industry, I mostly wear a T-shirt and jeans. From the very beginning of the day when I dress, until I go to bed, a T-shirt and jeans. This was my life and everything was fine. It never occurred to me that other clothes – something like “home clothes” – would be more comfortable to wear outside of working hours. Something like sweatpants.

For some of you, this is not new knowledge. For me, this is a discovery of consolation.

As soon as the sweatpants were at my doorstep, I decided to try them like in old college. I was immediately greeted with soft pants, unlike anything I have experienced in recent years, such as being swaddled in a blanket shaped like a pants. Blanket for trousers. Is choosing comfort over style a trick? Probably no. But this small change has improved my life and may improve yours.

These pants have zippered pockets and a slightly tapered leg that reminds me of the $ 100 Nike sweatpants introduced a few years ago by Jezebel , which apparently had a sizable male fan base in 2014. These Basic Outfitters Pants cost $ 30 when purchased separately. … There is nothing fancy about them, nothing fancy, but they are soft and cute .

Since then, I’ve gotten into the habit of changing into sweatpants at the end of the day when I know I’m not going to leave the house anymore, and it has improved my life in a small, warm and comfortable way. I don’t wear them outside; I do not judge people who roam the earth in sweatpants, but personally, I would feel too insecure in my soft pants to do that. Possibly a corner wine cellar, but no further. Sweatpants for me, in my house, after I’m done with the world.

If you like comfort, I advise you to wear sweatpants.

When you get home after a long day at work and know you don’t need to go out or entertain someone, change into sweatpants and you will feel happier. If it’s Saturday and you’re not leaving the house before sunset (if not at all), put on sweatpants. If it’s a weekday and you don’t have to trudge to the office, wear sweatpants. No, this is not a glamorous look. It is, however, a glamorous look.

With bad news feeling pugnacious every day because of its ruthlessness, and my own responsibilities growing like an ominous storm cloud wandering on the horizon, I’ve tried to get the tiny joys in life, the little comforts that make life generally easier. I chose sweatpants. I recommend that you do the same.
