What Is the Diamond Patch on the Backpack For?

Many backpacks come with useful extra features like hidden pockets, detachable pouches and key loops, but one you might not be aware of can actually be used if there is a diamond-shaped patch that some backpacks have on the front. That’s what it can be used for.

Commonly called eyelash tabs or pork muzzles, these patches are designed to store items that might not fit in a bag or that you need easy access to, such as a rolled up jacket or a water bottle. You can even use it for larger items like a pair of shoes or a flashlight when traveling or exploring nature. Simply attach whatever you want to a thin string and thread the patches through the slots. Make sure whatever you attach securely and do not use it to store any valuables that are more susceptible to damage or theft when tied to the outside of your bag.
