This Tool Shows the Location of Faulty Bridges in Your Area
Bridges are built to stand the test of time, but some bridges are better designed than others or built with more durable materials. If you’re wondering how safe bridges are in your area, this web-based tool can tell you.
Created by Denise Lou and Dan Keating of The Washington Post , the tool covers all of the bridge-covered counties in the United States. Hover over the map to find your parish, then click on it. You will be provided with some statistics for the district as a whole, but you can click View District Details to see a detailed view of all the bridges in your area. You will see a map showing all the bridges in your area, each with a rating of good, functionally obsolete, or structurally deficient. Bridges that are considered “functionally obsolete” or “structurally deficient” do not necessarily collapse, but they may be unsafe, and bridges in these categories require repair and may have load limitations.
