How to Buy a Bike on EBay Without Splashing Water

eBay is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to buy a used bike. However, throwing tons of money on something you can’t see is always a concern, especially when it’s what you need. The Global Cycling Network staff have some tips on how to find something that works for you.

It’s almost always best to buy a bike that you can actually experience the ride on , but eBay is expanding your choices and usually has some good deals. Here are some tips from GCN:

  • Buy a Familiar Brand : It seems obvious, but there are tons of weird bike brands and a lot of fancy fakes out there. So, generally speaking, go for something from a brand you know. If something looks cool but you’ve never heard of it before, do a little research on the frame or components.
  • Check the cleanliness : If the bike is clean, it is a good sign that it has been taken care of. It’s a simple thing, but really, if the seller is having trouble making the bike look good in a photo, you know that he at least cares a little.
  • Replacement Cost Factor : Sometimes the bike can be pretty worn out, but that doesn’t mean the frame isn’t worth it. Just because it doesn’t slide or the chain looks like it’s been in a pile of dirt for a month doesn’t mean it’s not worth it, as long as you don’t mind buying a new set of components. This is a decent way to save money when others might ignore the bike.
