How to Turn Off Autoplay Audio for Facebook Videos
Facebook videos will get much louder. With the upcoming Facebook app update, videos will automatically play audio when scrolling through the feed. Here’s how to turn it off.
Previously, you could only hear the audio of the video when you click on the video in the Facebook news feed. Now, as long as your device is not in silent mode, the sound will fade in and out as you watch all these food videos. This may be a welcome addition to some, but for the rest of us, this is a new annoyance to deal with if you don’t already have autoplay video turned off .
On your iOS device
For your iPhone and iPad devices, start by opening the Facebook app and sign in if you haven’t already. Later:
- Click the three-line hamburger button in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Tap Settings> Account Settings> Sounds.
- Tap the switch to turn off News Feed Videos Start With Sound.
If you do not see this option, the update has not yet been released to you. Check back later.
On your Android device
For your Android devices, start by opening the Facebook app and log in if you haven’t already. Later:
- Click the three-line hamburger button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap App Settings.
- Tap the switch to turn off News Feed Videos Start With Sound.
If you do not see this option, the update has not yet been released to you. Check back later. Also, there is currently no way to mute the news feed in your desktop browser, so you just have to turn off autoplay videos entirely.
