YouTube Go Downloads Videos for Offline Viewing, Saves Your Data Plan

Android. Few apps are less supportive of your data-limited data plan than YouTube. If you want to download videos for offline viewing, you can subscribe to YouTube Red or use the new free YouTube Go.

YouTube Go is a new Google project targeting developing countries. It is designed to use as little data as possible. The app shows you a preview of the video you intend to watch before you can download it in “basic” or “standard” quality.

None of these options are going to look amazing or anything like that. In fact, you can’t even get 720p video from the app. However, if you’re trying to store as much data as possible, it gives you a ton of breathing room. Best of all, these videos will stay there even if you lose your internet connection. YouTube Go is technically listed as “unreleased”, but you can try it now.
