Clean up Your Trash by Selling Anything You Wouldn’t Buy Again Today
If you are having a hard time deciding which things in the basement you should get rid of, ask yourself, “Will I buy this again today?” If not, maybe it’s time to get rid of it.
As the personal finance site The Minimalists points out, we accumulate many things that we are not interested in keeping. But when he’s in your basement, he’s already been paid for. Throwing it away is a sheer waste that can skew the way you value it. However, imagine if your basement was a store. Would you pay again to carry him to your “house” upstairs?
What do you have that you don’t like? If you could start over, would you buy these items again today? If not, then it might be worth letting go today.
When you put debris through this filter, it’s easier to decide what to get rid of. Of course, you don’t want to get rid of your old stationary bike that you already paid for. On the other hand, if it’s gathering dust in your basement, you almost certainly won’t buy it again today. So it’s probably okay to let go.
