Learn to “drop Books” and Other Tips to Finally Leave a Dent on Your Reading List
I often envision the leaning tower of Pisa as the physical embodiment of my line of e-books. I want to finish more books but can’t seem to read them fast enough. As the Harvard Business Review (HBR) explains, it’s not about reading speed, but about creating a consistent reading effort . Here’s how to do it.
Of the eight tips HBR has to offer, my favorite was the one that dealt with “quitting books” halfway through. Some of us find it oddly difficult to leave a book unfinished, even if it doesn’t interest us. For me, it’s a strange kind of guilt that breeds persistence to quit smoking and postpones reading all the other books on my reading list. So instead of worrying about it, rethink it as a positive thing: you are setting aside time and space in your mind for much better and better readings.
In addition, you can create a place in the house that does not distract you from reading (for example, a room without a TV or computer). Or write down a reading list from someone you admire. Or, if you only read with an e-book reader, try reading a regular book to mix it up. Read the HBR article for more tips and get started reading (more books).
