Five Easy Photo Enhancement Tricks Everyone Can Do
Taking great photos doesn’t necessarily require a lot of training and good equipment. You can enhance all of your photos simply by changing the way you shoot.
In this video, YouTube and professional photographer Peter McKinnon share five simple things you can do to improve the quality of your photos:
- Use foreshortening: Take 10 extra seconds before shooting to think about the best perspective for your subject. Move a little and find an angle that looks more interesting than straight ahead.
- Shooting: Shoot your subject through a group of people, through foliage, or anything dangling in front of the lens. Give your photos a little more depth and complexity.
- Think differently : if everyone is filming from the same location from the same angle, try something different. Shoot the subject from the other side, close-up, upside down, at a strange angle, etc.
- Find the light: Lighting is important, so take the time to find the best light for your shot. Disagree. If the light isn’t enough, consider returning to the time it is, or try adding your own. And never forget the golden hour.
- Framing: Use objects, people, and whatever you can find to frame and tell a story. Framing creates a more interesting dynamic and gives the photo an atmosphere.
Much of this can be boiled down to pre-shot speculation, but few people realize how little it takes to turn a boring shot into something compelling. Taking multiple snapshots can be fun, but just a little preparation time can dramatically improve almost every photo.
