Control Your Photo Equipment Like a Pro With MyGearVault
iOS: Whether you are a pro or new to using new equipment, photography equipment is expensive and accumulates quickly. MyGearVault helps you keep track of all your equipment in one place.
The app is a (free) inventory app that allows you to enter information about your specific type of gear. You can enter your serial number, description, serial number photo and more. They also have a feature that alerts you if your stolen hardware is added to the app:
For example, if your camera is stolen, simply click the “stolen” button inside the app and your serial number will be entered into our stolen database. If anyone attempts to verify your lens as their own, we will be notified.
Of course, this depends on whether the thief is actually using this app and checking for stolen hardware, which is unlikely. However, this is a useful feature just in case.
However, keep in mind that you are sharing data with the app developers and you can view their full privacy policy here , but here is some information they have shared with us about how they keep your data safe:
We use all the best security protocols, the data is sent to the server over the secure https protocol (the same as when you shop online or log into your bank account) … As for the servers, we use services like Netflix and Airbnb, plus we never share your data with anyone, everything in your storage is yours. Another aspect of security has to do with people gaining access to your device. You can secure the MyGearVault app with Touch ID or Password, and use Facebook connection and secure verification to login.
You can just as easily use any home inventory app to get the job done (or you can just track this information yourself). However, the app makes it easy to find photography equipment, so if you have a lot of equipment it will come in handy. There is currently no Android version, but Encircle is a similar option for Android. This allows you to add items to your general home inventory list, and you can still enter serial numbers, photos, and more.
