Keep a Jar of Awesome to Remind Yourself of Small Victories

When things go wrong, “looking on the bright side” is a real test of your ability to express gratitude. At first, no one is perfect for being grateful , but here’s an idea that can help: keep the “jar of amazing” in plain sight to remind you that good things – and many of them – happened when life makes you sad.

I learned about this jar of awesome stuff from Tim Ferriss. It is designed to capture all those cool moments that you won’t remember in a week or months. Every time something big happens – you may have had to tighten the belt buckle one more notch – write it down on a piece of paper and toss it into a large stone jar of awesome things.

The idea is to keep collecting these nuggets so that when you need to get through tough times, you can view these cookie-style reminders that things aren’t so bad. This can be especially useful for highly ambitious people who easily become obsessed with the end result and completely miss out on all the milestones and small in-between wins. When you learn to appreciate small wins, you can feel much more successful and happy when you reach your Great Big Goal.
