Live Like You Don’t Care, Caring a Lot About Just a Few Things
From time to time I think it would be nice to just stop giving a shit about the rat race and do what you want. The video below (containing profanity) shows that you can do this simply by taking care of a few things.
The Charisma on Command video uses an imperfect example of Tyler Durden of Fight Club . While he’s not exactly what we’d call a role model, the film itself is compelling because many of us feel the rift between the trivial things we do every day to keep up with the lives we’d like to live.
Charisma on Command tries to save some of Durden’s ideology by pointing out what works and what doesn’t. Part of what makes Durden’s personality so powerful is that while he doesn’t care about most things, he cares very much about his personal philosophy. His own goals and ideas matter a lot, and he can articulate them when people ask or challenge him.
What Durden certainly fails to do is that he does not include other people in this philosophy and causes destruction around him. Even those of us who went through the Fight Club stage in college probably grew out of it, because deep down, we really don’t want to destroy society. We just want to live for real.
The video concludes that you can do both. By choosing what is important to you and living by that belief, you can stop cringing in fear of how others perceive you. You don’t need to feel pressured to conform or worry about losing your status while you pursue things that matter to you and do not apologize for it. Just, you know, try not to offend anyone in the process. After all, it’s just a movie.
