Safely Use Any Bag As a Camera Bag
Camera bags are great for protecting your gear, but if you’re not a professional photographer, spending money on a dedicated bag can be overwhelming. Fortunately, with the right accessories, any bag can work like a camera bag.
In this video from photographer Caleb Pike we see him adapting a cheap canvas mail messenger bag. The secret is really in the accessories. Lens cases are an obvious choice, but you can also use these cases for any loose batteries, cables, and other equipment that might rattle around your bag. (And you can even make a rudimentary lens case yourself .) What’s more interesting and new to me is the Domke wrap . It’s a soft cover that can be wrapped around anything that needs extra protection, from camera bodies to monitors and anything else that fits in your bag. (I used to wrap my camera in a sweater when lugging it around in my bag … it worked, but left me cold.) Pike also offers Porta Brace Stuff Sacks for storing any extra cables or batteries; they look great but are quite expensive so I would go for any cheap bag.
Throw it all in any bag and your gear should be safe and ready to shoot when you need it.
