Connect Your Raspberry Pi to an Old CD Tray for an Automatic Tea Brewer

Making tea is not that difficult, but when you are busy with work it can often be difficult to remember to take out the teabag. So, home craftsman Andrey Chilikin attached the Raspberry Pi to an old CD tray, which pulls a tea bag out of our mug after a certain time.

It can be a daunting task for anyone but the most avid tea drinker, but the design and materials here are surprisingly simple. Basically, you just connect the GPIO pins of the Raspberry Pi to the CD drive motor, load in a simple set of Python code, and you’re good to go. When the drive is triggered, the CD drive pre-soaks the tea bag and then lowers it up and down for a specified number of cycles.
