Why a Morning Ritual Is Needed, Not Just a Morning Routine
You probably already have a morning routine where you get up, clean up, get ready for the new day, and walk out the door. You may be missing a morning ritual or something you do to set the stage for the day and start on a positive note. This is what we mean.
The Pick the Brain blog offers three simple reasons why a morning ritual – or something you do every morning, not because you have to follow a certain chain of events, but because you want it – is necessary and will dramatically improve your morning routine:
- The morning ritual allows you to start the day with a proactive note, “I did something good for myself today,” rather than a reactive note, “What I need to do today.” It’s a simple mind shift, but it’s incredible when you realize that even before you left home, you did something good, crossed an item off your to-do list, and practiced a little self-care.
- The ritual you choose allows you to control your emotions or do something as rewarding as looking at what makes you happy, thinking about things for which you are grateful, or enjoying what brings you joy. As in the previous point, it allows you to do something good and feel good about it, instead of being dependent on everything that comes your way.
- Morning rituals allow you to combine your strongest habits . Maybe it’s a little exercise and a healthy breakfast and a little grateful journaling, or maybe it’s just light stretches and deep breathing. Whatever you want to make a habit, turning that – or theirs – into a morning ritual can be extremely rewarding.
