Follow the F / 8 Rule for Great Street Photography on the Go
Manual exposure settings for your camera can be tricky . Rules of thumb are helpful in determining the correct settings. For example, if you are going to take street photography, use the f / 8 rule for your camera’s aperture.
Your camera’s aperture determines how much light it lets through, and its size is measured in apertures. The wider the aperture, the more light it lets through, and obviously a narrower aperture lets in less light. This can affect the sharpness of your shot, and f / 8 is best for street photography. How-To Geek explains why:
In terms of camera settings, we’re back to the always- reliable Aperture Priority mode . Arthur “Viigi” Fellig has said well – at least presumably – that the secret to good street photography is “f / 8 and be there.” In other words, if your aperture is set to f / 8, all you have to do is be in the right place to press the shutter button, and you can capture almost any moment. It’s up to you to decide which moments and places to capture.
This aperture ensures that pretty much everything is in focus and correctly exposed when you’re ready to shoot, so it’s a good setting for taking photos on the go . They also recommend setting your ISO to around 400. To learn more about how to take good photos on the go, head over to the full post at the link below.
