Fit and Replace Molding in Your Home With a Profile Fixture
The damaged stucco on the floor and ceiling in the house needs to be replaced, but some of the moldings are very decorated, especially if the house is old. Here’s how to fix the molding profile with a simple tool so you can replace it.
In this video from YouTube’s This Old House, contractor Tom Silva shows host Kevin O’Connor how to use a profile fixture, or contour gauge duplicator as some know it, to easily capture the shape of a whimsical sculpting. All you have to do is insert the flat set of pins into the molding and pull it out. You can then draw a molding pattern on a piece of paper, which you can give to your carpenter or contractor to reproduce.
You can also use the molding itself, but this method is simple and prevents further damage to your molding. And the tool itself usually costs less than $ 10 . Of course, if your molding is slightly damaged, it is not difficult to repair it yourself with an all-purpose sealant .
