Use Meal Time to Practice Mindfulness

Food is one of the most common activities that we do at the same time. There are arguments for multitasking , but if your goal is to be a little more mindful, you can practice focusing on the task at hand while eating. Don’t get distracted while eating and just eat.

Forbes author Gina Cho writes:

How often do you sit down to eat while completely distracted? You might be checking your email, Twitter, Facebook, or just disconnected. Try this: while eating, just eat. No digital gadgets, books, newspapers, etc. Try eating alone. Pay attention to what you eat, your sensory sensations – taste, smell, and texture. Pay attention to the color of the food. You can even thank you a little for the food you eat.

This is a simple sentence, but this is the essence of mindfulness: simplify the moment so that you are fully present, not distracted, and can truly enjoy your food . It can sometimes be difficult to find time to do this during the day, but you have to eat. So lunch, dinner, or breakfast is a good time to stop apologizing and just enjoy the moment without distraction. Plus, mindful eating is also a good way to curb overeating .
