Genius Deck Helps Rebuild Your Brain When You’re Stuck on a Problem
When you take breaks, you return to work with a fresh perspective, and if you get stuck, that perspective can often help you find a solution. The Genius Deck helps with this by asking random questions to help you switch.
The site is pretty basic. You simply press the “Flip Card” button and you are presented with a virtual card, which is a random question or phrase, for example: “Start with a small bet.” The idea is to turn your mind on a different path. The site puts it like this:
The Genius Deck is a tool for awakening the creative genius within you. Each card offers a question or hint to encourage new thought and can be used individually or viewed as a set.
The site is a project of Amanda Pingbodhipakkiya , a designer who studied neurology at Columbia University and who has conducted Alzheimer’s research at Columbia Medical Center. It is based on the Oblique Strategies cards, a deck of cards created in the 70s by musician Brian Eno. The deck was designed to encourage lateral thinking to help artists overcome creative hurdles. When you think about the questions and ideas presented, you shift gears, which helps you get out of the rut. Visit the website at the link below.
