Improve Your Photography Skills With This 52 Week Photography Challenge
Challenges are a fun way to improve your skills in a specific area. Whether you want to get better at photography or just love taking photos, PetaPixel has a fun 52 week photography shoot that anyone can take part in.
Photographer Dale Foche created the challenge last year and it went so well that he decided to return it in 2017. The challenge consists of a new challenge each week with emphasis on one of three general categories: storytelling, technical ability, and artistic impression. Here are the assignments for the first few weeks:
Week 1 : Subject: The Rule of Thirds : The Rule of Thirds is the first compositional rule learned by most photographers; but most do not know why they learn it. The rule of thirds is great for storytelling. Tell a story using the rule of thirds.
Week 2: Technical: SOOC : Straight from the camera. No photoshop. Make an attractive image and publish it without edits. No cheating! Be sure to save the image file before the end of the test!
Week 3: Artistic: Earth : This week you are inspired by the earth. It could be a landscape or an image inspired in some way by the area.
Week 4: Storytelling: Mirror: Tell a story using a mirror.
Week 5: Technique: Ten Shots: Take 10 shots of the same subject. Each shot must be taken from a different angle, from a different distance and focal length. Share your favorite picture from the set.
Foshe also encourages people to share their work. You can follow Instagram with other users who are taking the challenge ( including me! ) And add the hashtags # dogwood52, # dogwood2017 and # dogwoodweek1 (depending on the week). For a complete list of issues, see the PetaPixel link below.
