Show up Early and Early at the Party If You Just Can’t Feel It
Sometimes social pressures overwhelm your urge to kick at home alone. If you’re not ready to have fun with your family or friends, use this simple strategy.
If you’ve been invited to an event that you feel obligated to attend, Apartment Therapy’s Brittney Morgan recommends that you come to the event early before it gets crowded. And as soon as everything becomes unbearable, you leave. This will show your friends and family that you care and value participation, but you also don’t need to stay and burn the midnight oil. Plus, at some point, everyone can have so much fun that they won’t even remember that you left early.
If you’re unsure of how long you should be idle, it can help you set a goal . For example, make it a goal to say hello to everyone in the room before you leave. Or take one or two group photos. Or perhaps have one drink and plan to leave as soon as you finish drinking it. Anyway, come in, go out and enjoy the rest of the evening.
