How to Survive a Holiday Office Party

Corporate holiday parties offer a respite from the usual stress of work, but they are also notorious opportunities to embarrass yourself. Here’s how to have a holiday party without waking up with regret.

First things first – you might be tempted to do a pre-play and take the edge off before arriving, but this is never a good idea, especially when surrounded by your professional peers. And dress nicely, but modestly; stick to a sport coat or cocktail dress and ditch the elf costume.

When things are underway, it is probably best to avoid controversial topics in conversation (β€œHey boss, do you think Bernie would win?”). Have two drinks or so , and once everyone gets too relaxed to calm down, it might be ghost time. Then you will be ready to start the new year without a hangover or staff complaints.
