Play This Raspberry Pi Powered Claw Machine to Win Money for Charity

Claw Cars are challenging games that test your spatial perception. This Raspberry Pi powered machine with an internet connection and a webcam mostly runs in hard mode, but that’s a good reason if you want to play it now.

The screenshot above shows what the car with claws looks like (you can find the live stream at the source link below). Liberty Games , which makes tables and cabinets for game rooms, has teamed up with charity St. Mungo’s fighting homelessness to create this building. You can remotely move the claw up, down, left and right from the Flash based interface. Click “Grab” and he will try to grab one of the stuffed animals, each corresponding to a dollar amount that will be donated to St. Mungo’s Charitable Foundation.

Of course the money will go to charity anyway , but it’s a fun way to raise awareness. For the tech-savvy, they’ve also posted photos of their build at the link below. You can see how they hooked up the Raspberry Pi to the scratching post controls. They even tune the scratching post for maximum payouts (and yes, you’re not paranoid: it’s a setting that you can tweak in the scratching post), since it’s a charity after all.
