Beware of Pre-Registering Amazon Products When Giving As a Gift
If you’re buying someone an Echo or another Amazon product this holiday season, be sure to tell Amazon it’s a gift. Otherwise, it will be registered with your account and not with the recipient’s account.
You’ve probably seen the little “this is a gift” checkbox in your Amazon shopping cart. If you’re buying an Amazon Echo, Fire TV, or Fire Tablet for someone else, checking this box will ensure the device ships without registering with any account. However, as How-To Geek explains, this option is easy to overlook. If you lose sight of this and Amazon ships the product associated with your account, deregistering the device is pretty straightforward.
In the drop-down menu of your Amazon profile, you will see an option called Content & Device Management. Click on it, then go to the “Devices” tab on the next screen. You should see the device listed there. Under the button “Actions with the device” click “Unregister”. The device should now be turned off and ready to use.
