Six Principles of Etiquette You Should Know Before Your Big Party

At large corporate events or holiday parties, there are tons of snacks and free drinks – two things that can easily make you look like a fool if you’re not careful. These tips will help you stay stylish and calm.

In this video from the ZAGAT YouTube channel, three event experts from the Hotel On Rivington in New York, NY – Special Events Captain Curon Booker, Events Director Anna Wagner and Special Events Bartender Nicole Levinne – discuss everything there is to and bans on special events and work parties. Here are a few things to remember before heading out for your big evening:

  • Be sure to check your order before heading to the bar, and that’s good advice no matter where you drink.
  • Tip your bartenders if there is a tip jar available. Pro tip: Add a big tip early in the night so you don’t have to think about it again.
  • Do not stop the servers to prepare meals and do not stand at the entrance to the server, waiting for them to come out with a fresh tray. Wait for them to come to you.
  • Do not take more than one Hor d’oeuvre at a time. Take an item, eat it, then take a napkin. There is no need to place the drink on the table. If the item has a skewer, feel free to place it on any hard surface or in the trash can.
  • Do not order pictures at an open bar, especially at a corporate party.
  • Do not open shops at a bar or at a buffet table, and do not interfere with other people ordering drinks and receiving food. Grab some food and drink, then return to the line when you want more.

Now that you know how to proceed, remember to dress properly and talk to the right people upon arrival .
