Setapp Is a Subscription-Based Mac App Store That Has Many Popular Apps

The “Netflix for Software” model may sound a little odd on paper, but Setapp is a new service launching today in public beta that hopes to be just that.

Setapp was created by MacPaw , a developer of utilities such as CleanMyMac and Gemini. After downloading and installing the Setapp software, you simply browse the applications you are interested in and download them. As long as you have an open subscription, you will have access to all included applications. Right now, the list includes many apps that we’ve loved over the years, including Alternote , Ulysses , Gemini , Screens, and HazeOver .

Setapp currently costs $ 9.99 a month for access to 49 apps , although those numbers may change by the time Setapp seriously launches early next year. Obviously, the value proposition here depends entirely on how many apps you need and how often you need them, but at least everyone gets a free month to try it out . You can sign up for the beta program right now on the Setapp site, and invitations will roll out over the next few weeks.
