Remotely Control Your Fireplace With Google Home and Raspberry Pi
If you have a fireplace that can be remotely controlled, why not turn it on with your voice? With a bit of Raspberry Pi magic, you can turn on the fireplace with Google’s quirky new voice-activated speaker .
Reddit user Hovee demonstrates his setup in the video above. To control your fireplace remotely, you need a Raspberry Pi, a Global Cache relay controller , and a Google Home speaker. There’s also a little IFTTT that helps with voice commands. The project is not for the faint of heart. You will need to do a little wiring for the switch, and since you are dealing with fire, you should probably know what you are doing. It also might not work if you don’t have a fireplace that can be controlled remotely. Be sure to read the instructions and diagrams of your fireplace carefully before building it yourself. A similar setup is also possible with Amazon Echo, although you may need slightly different steps. Howie’s instructions and the following discussion are a good place to start your search.
