Word Description Finds Adjectives for the Noun You Are Writing About
When you write, adjectives give you the most flexibility to create a compelling picture. It’s also easy to fit into a trivial series of mundane, familiar adjectives. Describing words helps inspire you to do something different.
Go to the word description and enter the noun you want to write about. The site then provides you with a list of descriptors. The list is compiled from the analysis of hundreds of books and authors over the past century. The creator of the tool used Project Gutenberg as a starting point for the database, later adding “about 100 gigabytes of text files.” The result is a varied and eclectic list of adjectives. Words that are displayed in blue are used more often than gray boxes.
Of course, the adjectives you find may not work for your story, but they can inspire you as you try to paint a picture. Also, keep in mind that this tool is automated, so you might accidentally come across a few words that aren’t actually adjectives. If you don’t recognize a word, be sure to find it before using it in your story.
