Two Things You Can Do to Make You Feel More Comfortable After Overeating
So you’ve just eaten a hearty meal plus dessert. Before you go into a food coma, you may feel a little more comfortable doing this first.
The first thing you need to do is get on your feet. As dietitian Leslie Bonci explains to Popular Science ‘s Sophie Bushwick, movement is an important part of digesting food :
“If you go from sitting to standing, you will move your food faster and feel less uncomfortable than if you just sat down.”
Movement will tell your body that it needs energy and move food from your stomach to your intestines, making you feel less like you’re about to explode. However, there is no need to hit the treadmill. Just take a walk around the area. While you are doing this, Bonchi recommends drinking as much liquid as possible. Water is best, but whatever liquid you choose will help get things going. You can read more about the science of overeating at the link below.
