This DIY Electric Skateboard Is Powered by the Raspberry Pi Zero

If you’re looking for a fun weekend project and have a Pi Zero, consider making your own electric powered skateboard like this one from The Raspberry Pi Guy. Driven by an old Wiimote and capable of speeds of 30 km / h (about 19 mph), this is a good way to get around town.

The components required here are actually pretty simple – you’ll need a skateboard, a battery to power the entire rig, a motor and mount for it, a motor controller, a Wiimote that you hold (and connects to the Pi via Bluetooth.), And a Pi Zero to act as the “brain” of it all. Best of all, if you don’t know where to get everything – or even the code needed to run on the Pi to make it all work together – the Raspberry Pi Guy has it all in the YouTube video description linked below, even a skateboard and the trucks he used for this particular build.

Step-by-step instructions for playing – The video is only about three minutes long and is worth watching.
