The Rest of the Day: You Can Now Use Skype Without an Account
One of the frustrating things when choosing a chat platform is that you usually need to make sure that the person you want to chat with already has an account on the site of your choice. With the new Skype feature, this is no longer a problem. About this and much more in today’s news.
- You can now invite people to a Skype call even if they don’t have a Skype account. This was already possible in group chats, but now you can create a unique link where someone can start a conversation with you without having to create an account. (You can, for example, send someone the link by email, and every time they click on it, they start a conversation with you.) The recipient does not need to register or download anything. See Demo below. [Skype Blog]
- Microsoft joins the Linux Foundation , a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and collaborative development of open source software. They are already one of the main contributors to the open source project on GitHub, and joining the foundation (which means a donation of about $ 500,000 ) will allow them to participate in open source projects. - Google has created a great virtual reality app that lets you fly around on Google Earth’s 3D maps. It currently only works with the HTC Vive. (One can imagine there will eventually be a version for their own VR phone headset, Google Daydream .) [Keyword]

- Twitter now has an Android TV app. Like their Apple TV app, it focuses on live streaming, so you can watch something like a soccer match and follow the tweets along with the video, but you can’t actually tweet from it. [Android Police]
