Anthony Bourdain Explains Why It Is Now Possible to Order Fish on Mondays

Someone once said that fish cannot be ordered on Mondays because seafood is not delivered on weekends. This man was none other than Anthony Bourdain , and now he’s back to explain why you have nothing to worry about anymore.

The rule first appeared in Bourdin’s book Confidential Cuisine , which explores the invisible world of New York City restaurants. But as he explains in this YouTube Tech Insider video, his advice at the time was strictly for the New York market. In addition, it was 16 years ago, and the way fish is processed and consumed in the United States is very different from what it was then:

“It’s just a variety of fish that we want to eat in restaurants and are open to eating. The way we eat and the temperature at which we eat have completely changed. I mean, everyone eats sushi now … Now we know what good fish is and the market had to react to that. He won’t get away with giving us the crap they are used to. “

However, Bourdin has a few words of caution:

“I’m not suggesting you go to the local fake Irish pub on Monday, they have a very special mussel – maybe it’s still not such a good idea …”

So yeah, be vigilant and keep an eye out for sketchy seafood specialties. Otherwise, go ahead and, as Bourdin says, “Eat the damn fish.”
