Sort Folders and Files on Mac in the Same Way As on Windows With a Single Preference Switch
If you’re switching to macOS from Windows, or simply prefer the way Windows sorts files with folders at the top and files below, then How-To Geek points to a little tweak that allows you to change how files are sorted.
By default, macOS displays files and folders in one large alphabetical list. This option makes the folders appear at the top, followed by files. In the Finder, click Finder> Preferences, then select the Keep folders at the top when sorting by name check box. That’s it, your folders will now always appear at the top of the list in Finder when sorted by name.
