Netflix Now Has More “Certified Fresh” Movies Than Amazon Prime and HBO Combined
Netflix has cut films by 33% and TV shows by 26% in the past couple of years, but it looks like it is at least dropping the “bad” and keeping the “good.”
Eric Anthony of the Streaming Observer analyzed data from the Rotten Tomatoes movie review site to see how the three most popular movie streaming services fit together. When it comes to movies with high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes or Certified Fresh, Netflix is currently in the lead:
- Netflix: 357 Certified Fresh Movies
- Amazon Prime Video: 236 Certified Fresh Movies
- HBO Now: 52 Certified Fresh Films
This does not mean that Netflix is inherently better than Amazon Prime Video or HBO Now, especially since movie ratings are not ideal from the start . And each service has its own benefits that make them worthwhile. You’re probably paying for Amazon Prime already, so movie streaming is a nice bonus. And HBO Now / Go gives you access to its library of critically acclaimed series. It’s also important to note that these are current numbers, so this is likely to change over time. It just goes to show that despite Netflix’s rapidly shrinking library, the service still aims to offer a lot of decent things to watch.
