This Simple Breathing Exercise Will Help You Fall Asleep Again at Night.
If you ever wake up in the middle of the night and are unable to return to dreamland, this deep breathing exercise can help.
You wake up, roll over to look at the alarm, and you only slept for a few hours. So what are you doing? Maybe you reach for your phone, maybe turn on the light to read a book. Or maybe, if you are like me, you turn on the TV. In fact, these activities will wake you up even more .
In this video from YouTube’s Tech Insider, Dr. Eric Voight of New York University shares a simple breathing technique for those hectic nights. Lie back in bed, sit back and take a deep breath through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Do it slowly, deeply, and rhythmically. If this helps, you can even repeat “relax” in your head to get rid of other thoughts. Breathing causes your parasympathetic nervous system to release hormones that will help you fall asleep again.
