One of the best things about traveling is learning a little about other cultures, but learning about other cultures comes with the risk of oversight. Avoid these hand gestures when traveling so as not to offend the owners. Some of them may be familiar, but others are quite unique.
Most people probably know that a peace sign in the US can, if your fingers are turned the wrong way, be the equivalent of throwing someone in the UK, but you may not know that the alluring gesture “come here” that you probably , familiar. with quite disrespectful in Japan and some other countries of Southeast Asia.
The same thing happens if you raise your palm to signal someone to stop. It’s perfectly normal here in the US, and in some cases just a signal that you need someone’s attention. On the other hand, in Greece it is pretty rough.
